Explore Mediterranean Climate Plants at the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden

About 2 month(s) ago by Allegretto Vineyard Resort

The San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden is committed to preserving our connection with nature by connecting people and plants. They specifically focus on the various roles plants play in our lives – from providing food and shelter to serving as clothing and medicine. They also emphasize horticulture, education, research, sustainable and fire-safe practices, water conservation, children’s gardens of exploration, culinary demonstrations, life celebration gardens, health and nutrition, storytelling and the arts. Clearly, there are so many ways for visitors to learn about and interact with the garden’s diverse plant species.

The San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden is located near the Pacific Ocean on the Central Coast of California. Once the expansion of the botanical garden is complete, it will be the only garden of its kind in the United States to be exclusively devoted to the plants of the five Mediterranean regions of the world.

To visit this unique garden, there are a variety of tour options available:

· Educational Tours: these tours are offered to school groups free of charge. For an exceptional learning experience about Mediterranean climate plants, schedule a tour for your class today!

· Self-Guided Visits: visitors can enjoy a self-guided walk during El Chorro Regional Park open hours. To help you find your way through the two-acre garden, a complimentary map and information guide will be provided. · Docent-led Tours: knowledgeable docents will lead your group through the two-acre garden. Tours are available every day with the exception of Tuesdays. Tours generally last an hour and must be scheduled in advance. Although there is no charge for the tour, we ask each group member to make a $2 donation.

There are also a series of exciting events happening throughout the year at The San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden. You can visit the botanical garden’s website for a complete listing of these events. In addition, there are also several recurring events and classes, including:

· Founder Walk and Talk: you can take a walk with Eve Vigil on the first Tuesday of each month from 11am-12pm. She will discuss the garden’s history, what’s in bloom, maintenance, and address the group’s questions.

· Saturday at the Garden: a monthly educational program that is held on the second Saturday of each month. Activities are also provided for children while the adult program takes place.

· Saturday at the Children’s Garden: the goal of this garden is to encourage “education through exploration.” The garden was constructed to educate children about topics such as ecology, sustainability, and healthy eating.

There are such a wide variety of events and tours to partake in as you educate yourself about these Mediterranean climate plants!
