Annual Pioneer Day Parade Celebrates Paso Robles History

About 3 year(s) ago by Allegretto Vineyard Resort

Embrace Paso Robles’ most authentic and historic heritage at the annual Pioneer Day Parade. On October 8th at 10 a.m., downtown Paso Robles will be filled with families, couples, friends, and every group in between to celebrate the city. The parade will start on 17 and Spring, and end around the Paso Robles City Park. Admission to the event is absolutely free!

In addition to the parade, Pioneer Day will also have free bean feed and activities throughout the entire day, including antique and classic car judging, a children’s pet show, a little cowboy/cowgirl contest, a whiskerino contest, a horseshoe pitching contest, and many other surprises.

The first Pioneer Day was held on October 12, 1931. Community volunteers created this a tradition out of generous donations of time, materials, and money from individuals, businesses, churches, and service organizations. Their goal was to provide a day of community friendship and a commemoration of the heritage of the Paso Robles area. It would also become a day set aside to say “thank you” to all of the people who support the business community of the area throughout the year. Most businesses even closed so that their employees could enjoy and participate in the activities and family reunions. The mindset was to not have any charges for any of the events. Back in 1931, the original organizers provided commercial concessions and lunch without any fee.

Get a taste of the historic flavor of the very first Pioneer Day Parade in this video shot by Henry Boulware, owner of Paso Robles Pharmacy during the 1930s.

Still today, the celebration is entirely funded by the local business people and dedicated citizens of the area who continue to say, “Leave Your Pocketbook at Home.” Join in celebrating the Paso Robles community.

It is fun for the entire family. Bring your favorite lawn chairs, hats and sunscreen, and plan on having a great day.
