Paso Robles Museum Honors Military Aviation History

About 3 year(s) ago by Allegretto Vineyard Resort

Paso RoblesEstrella Warbirds Museum has committed itself to the preservation and restoration of military aircraft, vehicles, and the lives of those who flew and worked in the military aviation field. Two men with two airplanes, who also had a desire to see their passion be broadcast in an aviation museum in Paso Robles, founded the museum over 25 years ago. The museum showcases this crucial side of history, not to necessarily glorify war, but more importantly to show future generations how patriots’ lifestyles do not come without a necessary sacrifice.

Originally residing on the five acres of land that the city of Paso Robles leased to the museum, Estrella Warbirds Museums has now expanded to twelve and a half acres. The museum consists of five buildings. The 64’ x 80’, all-metal, Atkinson Hangar (Hangar 1) was the first to be built. It was largely intended for volunteers and pilots.

The Al Schade Restoration Facility, built by devoted museum volunteers, has a full shop with vital machinery and tools used for the restoration of military aircraft, vehicles, and equipment. The facility also holds a large amount of storage space for inventory and other components.

Additionally, the museum features the Glen Thomson Meeting Hall, which offers a full-service kitchen, wet bar, restrooms, central air and heat, and WiFi. The venue is used as a meeting place for aviation enthusiasts to gather. Above the modest convention center lies the museum’s permanent library and research center.

Freedom Hall is the Estrella Warbirds Museum’s main artifact facility, home to all of the historical artifacts and displays that the museum has gathered. New items are continuously being added to the collection, while displays are seasonally rotated. Curious visitors can continue to return to new discoveries.

Restored vehicles, armament, a restoration garage, and many preserved uniforms may be found in the Brooks Building. The 5,000 square-foot space allows for an elaborate display of restored military vehicles, munitions, missiles, and aviation radio equipment.

Finally, the Estrella Warbirds Museum’s sixth building is home to the vast collection of auto and racing memorabilia that is particularly unique to the Paso Robles area.
