“Garagistes” is a terms that originated in the Bordeaux region of France to describe small-lot wine makers, sometimes working in their garage, who refused to follow the rules. Now, they are a full-fledged wine movement and are responsible for making some of the best wine around the world. To celebrate these rebels, the Garagiste Festival is dedicated to the undiscovered and under-recognized artisan ‘garagiste’ producers who are making some of the best, most exciting, handcrafted small lot production wines in the world.
The schedule for the 2017 Garagiste Wine Festival is as follows:
Friday, November 10th:Friday Night Heaven: Rare, Reserve, & Retro (6:30-9:30p/$55 per person): Kick off the weekend with a mouthwatering bang! Guests will get to experience over 30 of the best wines our garagistes have to offer – only available at this event! – along with a bounty of delightful
l tapas from local Chef Loshel Robinson in conjunction with Fig at Courtney’s House, a Templeton dining favorite.
Saturday, November 11th
l Saturday will feature the following seminars from 11:00am-12:30pm:
What’s in a Rhone? Demystifing the Flavors of White Grapes from this Classic Region: We hear it a LOT…what is Marsanne? Roussanne? Are they grapes? Where is The Rhone? How do you say Viognier? Isn’t Grenache a red grape? Rhone varieties – and more importantly blends made from the region's classic white grapes – have been popping up all over California especially in the Central Coast over the past decade. We felt it was time to learn more about what each grape brings to the bottle by itself and in a blend. Seminar Panelists: Bob Tillman (Alta Colina), Neil Roberts (Clavo Cellars) and Curt Schalchlin (Sans Liege)
Breaking Down Bordeaux: An Exploration of the Classic Varietals a la Garagiste: Bordeaux may be the benchmark of red wines, but it’s not all just Cabernet Sauvignon. There are five traditional grapes that make up this region’s wines and we will explore them all, along with why they thrive in Paso, when to blend and when to let the varietal shine on its own. If anyone know how to produce great juice from an unsung grape it’s the Garagistes. Seminar Panelists: Damian Grindley (Brecon Estate), Ryan Render (Rendarrio Vineyards), David Vondrasek (Artisan Uprising) and Mark Wasserman (Vinemark Cellars).
