Perfect resting point on drive South

Very pleasantly surprised by the subtle elegance of this resort. We travel with two (perfect!?) standard poodles. Although there was a $100 extra dog charge, it was well worth it to feel welcome and even embraced. After checking in, we quietly entered the terrace door to the large, high ceiling Ed room with wood (faux?) and tile floors. Cleanest hotel ever! Perfect heating system (quiet) simple decor, comfy bed, terrace to walking paths. Doggie bed and water/food bowls too. And a doggie room service with healthy human food, dog walking and sitting service. Are you kidding me? Hate to leave but will return every time we visit family in Pasadena driving from SF. Oh! Great food in the dining room, which is casual chic

Beautiful Property !

Interesting and unique property. Spacious and comfortable rooms. Their wine is outstanding with a lovely tasting room that's open until 6:45pm. Amazing food at Cello with a great staff. And the hotel is dog friendly

Just average

Inconsistent service. Reservations at the front desk was frustrating due to long waits on the phone and staff who were unable to answer questions and advise on packages and alternative promotions. In other words, customer service was lacking. Also, we waited on two different occasions at the Cello restaurant at the hostess desk for a table for 2 even though there were clearly plenty of tables available

Just shy of five stars

We loved this property. We travel almost 3 months a year and I'm a wee bit picky. The property is amazing. What a vision! The highlight was the art tour by Caryl. I wish they offered this everyday as every guest should take it to appreciate the thought that went into its design. Our room, while one of the smallest, was perfect. I have never slept so soundly! Our view was idyllic. We overlooked the pool and vineyards. The linens and furnishings were lovely. The bathroom was ideal. Perhaps if the weather were warmer, I might appreciate the terrace rooms on the ground floor. But then we wouldn't have the view! Housekeeping was wonderful. Everything is spotless. The gardens are a dream (designed by the owner). We ate breakfast daily in their restaurant. Our server for 2 of 4 days was Sarah. She should be working the front desk! She helped us plan our daily hikes, recommended Sensorio and was a delight. Even when we weren't in her section she stopped by to see how we were enjoying our stay. The bartenders were great! Very efficient and friendly. I've been accused of being a hotel spotter in the past, so if the owner wants to contact me on details, please do. Here is where the property just falls short of perfection! When we checked in, the reception was so lukewarm. They weren't busy and I felt like we were an intrusion. My husband must have notified the hotel that it was my 60th birthday I almost laughed when she congratulated me. She never looked up from her computer and her voice was totally flat. I asked about the wine tasting on property. She motioned with her hand where it was located. The bellman (Blake) immediately interrupted to explain it was closed that day and advised the hours. I immediately inquired about the art tour which was of utmost interest to us. She was clueless. When prompted by Blake she said she thought it was at 3:00 on Friday. She never explained where anything was located or gave any additional information. By the way, on Friday morning I decided to confirm the time of the art tour. I approached a different woman at the front desk. She referred to a pamphlet of the weekly offerings and informed me the tour was at 4:00! Why didn't we get the pamphlet at check in?! Finally, after our server Sarah recommended the Sensorio show, I again approached the front desk. The woman said we should go online and find out about it. A cleaning woman nearby heard us and suggested to reception that she give us a brochure. Seriously? The servers, bellmen and cleaning women are more knowledgeable and helpful than the front desk? Someone isn't doing their job! In spite of this, we hope to return to this property. It is really a special place

Doesn't live up to it's potential

We stayed at the Allegretto for a weekend getaway to celebrate our anniversary. We usually stay at a bed & breakfast or airbnb while in Paso Robles but were looking for a place where we could dine and get room service. The room was nice and clean. The restaurant food was just ok. On our first morning we were seated at an outside table for breakfast because there was no inside seating availablee. It was very cold and the heaters were not lit. Had to ask the waiter to light one. Also the first table we were excorted to had dog hair all over it. We asked to be sat at another table. The restaurant staff did not wipe the table and attempted to sit 2 other couples who also asked to be seated elsewhere. The 3rd couple sat at the table without noticing. Not one employee took the initiative to clean the dog hair off the table. We have 2 dogs so we are dog people but like to eat at clean tables without hair. We went out for the day and returned around 4 pm. When we walked into our room we were expecting it to be made but it wasn't. We had to call the front desk for housekeeping. We were told they were very busy. Our room was cleaned while we went out for dinner that evening. Also getting hot water for tea is next to impossible unless you are seated in the restaurant. The grounds are beautiful. If the service was better we would have enjoyed our stay a lot more
