Hearst Castle was established in 1865, when George Hearst purchased 40,000 acres of ranchland that he eventually expanded to an impressive 250,000 acres. With architect Julia Morgan, Hearst conceived a retreat he called La Cuesta Encantada -- Spanish for “Enchanted Hill.” The castle, once built, comprised 165 rooms and 123 acres of gardens, terraces, pools, and walkways -- and is nothing short of spectacular.
During your seventy-five minute tour, your knowledgeable guide will share stories about the holiday festivities that transpired at the estate during Hearst’s time there. The tour highlights include Casa del-Mar, the grand social rooms of Casa Grande, the kitchen, the theatre, the Neptune pool, the Roman pool, and the gardens.
During the winter of 2017, the tour will be offered on November 24th and November 25th. After these dates the tour will resume December 16th through December 30th, with the exception of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
